Gorodets is a pleasant town in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where there are many prettiest museums dedicated to samovars, regional studies, toys ... 2008 was marked by the opening in the city manor with elements of Art Nouveau built in 1906. and the once owned merchant Petelin, the museum "Gorodetsky gingerbread". Only three halls, and how many fascinating!

Magic sweet aroma meets you immediately at the entrance and accompanies the whole building!

Here are the gingerbreads, carved gingerbread boards of different epochs, bastboxes for storing this wonderful edible symbol of the Gorodets and another sea of interesting things.

Along with the city museums, Tula, Arkhangelsk, Civil, St. Petersburg, Kazan, even Nuremberg cakes . And wonderful gingerbread houses send you to a fairy tale ...

Gingerbread fisheries have always been one of the most popular in the city. The inhabitants of Gorodets mined honey of wild bees in the surrounding forests. Then it was baked delicious gingerbread, adding treacle, sugar, raisins and a lot of different spices for taste (cinnamon, coriander, anise, ginger, cloves, cardamom). That's why they called it "gingerbread". Gorodetsky cake was printed, which distinguished it from others.

Folk craftsmen made intricate wooden cliches depicting horses and birds, with various patterns and dedicatory inscriptions, with the help of which these delicacies were made. It was not an easy task, because the gingerbread board was carved in the mirror image of the carrot pattern and using a whole set of special tools. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, there were already about 16 bakeries in Gorodets.

Gorodets gingerbread did not stale and did not spoil for months and were at a great price. They were sold at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, and from there they were already scattered around Russia and Central Asia. In the north of the state, in Komi, gingerbread was changed to fur. Large printed gingerbread was given to influential people. And in January 1895 the cake was sent as a gift to the king himself. In the Gorodetsky Gingerbread Museum there is a dish that was presented to Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich in Nizhny Novgorod in 1885.

Gorodetsky Gingerbread Museum, Nizhny Novgorod Region

Here, in addition to gingerbread and gingerbread boards, a panel on a theme of tea drinking, a collection of samovars decorated with the town's painting, old furniture, merchant's everyday life, photographs.

Impressive is the cabinet-hill of the 19th century, created by the local master GE Tokarev-Kazarin. It is all decorated with carved political, hunting and other subjects.

Along with the city museums, Tula, Arkhangelsk, Tsivil, St. Petersburg, Kazan, even Nuremberg gingerbread are exhibited in the museum. And wonderful gingerbread houses send you to a fairy tale ... Today gingerbread masters continue the old traditions, which is also displayed in the museum's exposition. The largest printed gingerbread made by modern masters has a weight of 6 kg, and in diameter - as much as 60 cm.

Workers conduct stunning and uplifting excursions to this small, very cozy museum.

You can even try yourself in a master -class and in this emotional atmosphere to make a stitch on the gingerbread.

Here gingerbread can also be bought, as fresh and fragrant as the museum itself. For those who want to practice in the sweet gingerbread business at home, carved gingerbread boards are sold, and in the museum itself they will tell about the recipes and the composition of the dough for making this delicious treat.

And already impressed with the exhibits and stories and buying souvenirs for memory, I do not want to leave this unique magic museum. Even those who got here quite by chance have a lot of pleasant emotions.
