How to get here
The city stands on the coast of the Rybinsk Reservoir, in 253 km from Tver and 437 km from Moscow. By car, the city can be reached via the P-84 (Tver - Bezhetsk - Vesyegonsk - Ustyuzhna). Paragraph history
There are two opinions about the origin of the name. In one of them it is said about the phrase "all the Yiddish", that is "all on the river Egne", but, as we know, the word "all" from Old Russian means "village" or "settlement". The second version, which is more adhered to by local residents - Finno-Ugric. Say all - this is an ancient tribe, and "Ego" in their language meant water.
The first mention of the village of All-Egonskaya refers to 1564, although the local historian Boris Kuptsov assumes the date of 1447, and the local specialist Svetlana Ershova mentions the remains of the wooden rooks that are found in the nearby marshes of Vesyegonsk. Until 1764, the settlement is listed as the Simonov Monastery in Moscow, in the 16th century, there are noisy fairs where wax, hops, honey, salt, fish and caviar are sold.
By 1803 Vesyegonsk became a traditional supernumerary town of the Tver province ("zastatny", by the way, by the definition of Brockhaus - "a village with the morals of the city, but without a county"). But in 18-19 centuries the city flourishes, here again there are cheerful bazaars, two of which - the Epiphany and Epiphany Fairs - are considered to be one of the largest on the territory of the Russian Empire.

Especially in the ensemble with the Trinity Church, which was built side by side with the Kazan in 1868. The elegant temple ensemble for a long time towered above the old Vesegonsky, and did not even go under the water along with the rest of the city, and all thanks to a good location.
