Some history
The city appeared on the map in 1915 . as a railway station with a touching name "Tikhonka ". After 16 years there was already a settlement Birobidzhan, and in 6 years the settlement became a full-fledged city . The name it received from two rivers: Bira, on which the city stands, and Bijana, which runs alongside . Workers Jews were decided to resettle here in 1928 .: the region had to be populated, in order to reflect the invasion of the Chinese or Japanese . City developed debt and it is difficult: the settlers arrived and in the same year left . But then, with the formation of the Jewish Autonomous Region, Jews from other countries were drawn here. . Working artels, small enterprises and factories were opened . By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War the city has become a full-fledged and developed settlement . Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Birobidzhan
There are not too many architectural sights in the city: both in initial assignment. The river divides Birobidzhan into two parts, connected by three bridges. On the right bank of Bira there is a natural city attraction - a hillock depicted on the city coat of arms. The height of the hills is more than 200 m, and there is a 95-meter TV tower at its top.

The square of the twin cities on Friendship Square was donated to the city of Hegan, the sister city of Birobidzhan. In the square there is a rather modern sculpture in the form of two hands on which the golden ball rests

35 km north of the city is the Bastak nature reserve, created to conserve rare plant species and animals, including those listed in the Red Book.
