Add a review about the Marley Palace

The Marley Palace, which was born thanks to the visit of Peter I in 1717 to the residence of the French king Louis XIV Marley-le-Roi, is considered the most modest, graceful and at the same time exceptionally graceful construction in Peterhof.

After just 3 years after visiting Marly-le-Roi, the high emperor orders to erect such a mansion on his lands, but not to copy exactly the prototype from far France, but only to borrow general compositional solutions.

Alas, look at the original "Marley" today already it turns out that during the Great French Revolution there were only ruins left of him.

Our, the Russian Marley was built literally for 3 years, from 1720 to 1723 ., the erection of the mansion was carried out by the well-known architect And . Braunstein . @ Perhaps the main highlight of the palace is its location . It stands on an artificial jumper between the large Marlin pond and the sector ponds . Directly in front of the elegant light building is an ideal smooth surface man-made pond creating a surreal picture of a huge mirror that reflects " Marley . Once in these ponds were bred fish that swam for feeding at the bell ringing .

It is noteworthy that originally the palace was planned to be one-story building, and the decision to add the second floor belongs to Peter . The idea of the king is surprisingly successful: it helped to make the project more proportional, finished and harmonious . Despite the fact that "Marley" is considered one of the most modest buildings of the palace and park ensemble, for many, this palace has become a favorite place of Peterhof . It's no wonder: let its facades be decorated laconically and details, and in only 12 rooms, "Marley" was and remains, perhaps, the most homey and cozy of all the galaxy of luxurious palaces of Peter .

By the way, this mansion has always been used to accommodate noble guests, but already in the middle of the 18th century it became something of a museum, acquired a memorial character: the wardrobe of Peter I.
Directly in front of the elegant light building, a man-made pond stretches an ideal smooth surface, creating a surreal picture of a huge mirror reflecting the "Marley".

Today, the collection "Marley" can boast truly unique exhibits - this is the naval coat of the emperor, and the caftan with the embroidered Order of St. Andrew, and rare books, and personally created by Peter's hands, a table with an "aspidic" board. On the "second" plan, complementing the general impression, a collection of works by little-known Dutch, Flemish and Italian artists of the 17th and 18th centuries is presented: Silo, Stork, Belotti, Celesti, etc.

After the tour of the palace, be sure to take time for a walk along the Marlinsky garden , which is divided by the Great Pond on the Garden of Bacchus and the Garden of Venus (the one that is closer to the sea). They, despite their picturesqueness, were smashed with a utilitarian meaning: in Venus they grew fruits for court meals, and in Bacchus they tried to plant grapes, but failed.
