In the 30s of the last century . all churches and temples of the city, except for two, were closed or destroyed .But when the city was occupied during the Great Patriotic War, its residents appealed to the authorities to allow the opening of the temple, and this request was granted. . In 1943 .the new church was consecrated in honor of the Great Martyr George the Victorious . The temple occupied a part of an ordinary single-story house in which the store was located . After the liberation of Taganrog, the residents gathered money for the church to "move" to a more appropriate place . So a piece of land was purchased in the neighborhood where an old barn of stone was located . Barn was restored and converted to church needs . After that, for many years the St. George's Temple was the beloved church of this part of the city .

In 1988, the city government planned to close the church, as the building has long ceased to meet sanitary requirements. In 2008, it became clear that the places on the territory of the church were already in short supply for all parishioners, and in 2010 the parish church bought adjacent land with a building on it. The latter was equipped with a Sunday school, which still works today: more than 100 children are studying there.

In addition, since 2008 the church has been enriched with several shrines. First of all, it is an ark with a part of the relics of St. George. In addition, several fine icons appeared in the church, also with parts of the relics of the saints: the faces of St. Luke, Paul Taganrog, Tikhon Zadonsky, Herman of Alaska and Glinsky elders.

Very much for the church, Abbot Arian (Archpriest Arian Pnevsky). During the war, he was wounded, served in tank troops, twice considered killed and immediately after the war entered theological seminary.

In 2013 the temple was visited by the Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk and blessed the beginning of the construction of a new church. According to the project, it will be executed in the classical, Byzantine style. It is planned to erect the main dome at a height of 17 m so that the church can be clearly seen. Until the church is built, the old temple will, of course, stand still and fulfill its former functions.
