A very small, neat and modest house, located in the depths of one of the courtyards of the wonderful city of Taganrog, may seem at first sight unremarkable. But, as with many things in our world, which at first seem insignificant, this house should be treated with special attention and reverence. It was here that on January 29, 1860, a son, the future great Russian writer and classic of world literature Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, was born in the family of the merchant of the 3rd Guild of Pavel Yegorovich Chekhov.
"Chekhov's House" is probably the most important museum in the city and uniquely one of its symbols. Travelers who want to pay tribute to the prose master invariably strive here. Townspeople are very proud of the museum and their brilliant countryman.
This house was built in the middle of the 19th century, and from the most inexpensive in the southern parts of the building material. It is known for certain that the Chekhovs' family moved here in 1859. This rented house became the first independent residence of the Chekhovs, who by that time already had two sons - Alexander and Nikolay. The area of the new dwelling was only 35.5 sq. M. m, which fit the kitchen, three rooms and a storage room.
@.They settled in this yard and repaired the house - whitewashed the walls, painted the shutters . After learning about this, people from all over the city began to flock here who somehow were connected or met with the Chekhovs' family . Thanks to this, the future museum's collection received such unique specimens as the Chekhov gymnasium report, his works and other things connected, if not with Anton Pavlovich himself, with his relatives .
For the first time the exposition opened here in 1926, and in the same year the first seedlings of specially planted cherry trees . Fedor Guba and Elena Kuzmenko became guides and caretakers of the museum in one person. And in 1933 "Chekhov's House" will be called "memorial."
In 1935, near the house, a bust was erected, which became the first sculptural depiction of the writer. At the opening ceremony of the monument, his mother, wife, brothers, sister, as well as actors of the Moscow Art Theater were invited. The view in which we see the museum today, "Chekhov's House" acquired in the 70's. In 2008, the museum was restored as part of the preparations for the 150th birthday of Anton Pavlovich.
