Add a review about the Capella in Peterhof

The main highlight of the Alexandria Park and the bizarre nuance of Peterhof is the house church of the imperial family consecrated in honor of Alexander Nevsky. Believe me, you probably have not seen anything like this on the territory of our country. Built in the years 1831-1833. Menelas and Charlemagne, the temple in the style of Gothic Revival can be called the rarest pearl of Orthodox architecture. By the way, it is often called the Chapel - you will see, you will understand why.

Neo-Gothic as a style has not taken root in our northern expanses, there are very few such temples in Russia, so it's so interesting to look at Alexander Nevsky's church in Alexandria.

Nikolai I himself chose the site for the construction of the church in 1829 . after that, as was completed the construction of the family cottage . The emperor liked the western part of the park "Alexandria", and it was decided to build a home chapel . The author of the project was the famous German architect K . - F . Shinkel, and the main architect was appointed A . Menela, after his death , that is, from September 1831 his role was assumed by AND . AND . Charlemagne .The construction was completed quickly enough - by the summer of 1834 the church was ready and on July 3 it was solemnly consecrated in the name of the holy and blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky .

The services in the church were held only in the summer, because the czar's family came only for the summer holidays.

With the arrival of the revolution for the church, as for all of Russia, dark times came: in 1918 the church was closed, two years later the museum was opened, then it was closed again and only after an overhaul in 1933 an exhibition on the history of the Alexandria park ". During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was badly damaged, and restoration was carried out only in 1970-1999, reopening the museum.

Two days, September 26 and 27, 2006, in the Alexander Nevsky church, a coffin with the body of Empress Maria Fedorovny, who was brought from Denmark to reburial on his native side - in the Peter and Paul Fortress of St. Petersburg.

Fortunately, in 2006, after another restoration repair, the church began to receive the parishioners again, it was solemnly consecrated by Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg and Ladoga.

Two days, 26 and on September 27, 2006, a coffin with the body of Empress Maria Feodorovna was exhibited in the Alexander Nevsky Church, which was brought from Denmark for reburial on its native side - in the Peter and Paul Fortress of St. Petersburg.

The chapel is amazingly beautiful, gracefully inscribed in the landscape and at first sight attracts attention and admiring gazes. It's no wonder: the temple is decorated with a thousand details that were cast at the Alexander Foundry in 1832. In addition to the "cast-iron decor," it is decorated with 43 copper statues. Above each portal is a round rose window with a stained glass window, and above it a figure of an angel. The internal painting belongs to the talented master A. Nefu
